Those are good points, William. I haven't used TTP in years since I've found other tools that work better but, TTP's ability to locate and sometimes fix corrupted files is an option. Another option would be to use DiskWarrior, which sole task in life is to fix all directory issues, even split/duplicated entries which is something I never found TTP able to do.
It's been years since we've used TTP and I know they've recently updated the suite with a newer version so it might be worthwhile seeing how it's been developed.
I always like options...
