Adding letterbox to widescreen .mov file
Hi
I have been given a widescreen quicktime file that i am trying to bring into final cut pro and re-export in 4:3 (which will give it a letterbox) so i can upload it to youtube without it looking squashed. when i import it into final cut and place it into a 4:3 sequence it has chopped the bottom of the movie off. apologies in advance, i think i am being stupid. deadline looming, suggestions very welcome thanks in advance |

What are your settings, both on your timeline and on your movie?
By widescreen, do you mean anamorphic? First, check your frame size is the same and then check your settings under the motion tab: Distort should be set to -33. |

No need to messed around in FCP for this. Open the movie, hit command+e to export it using QT. Select 720x480 as your video size, check the "preserve aspect ratio" check box and select "letterbox" from the drop down menu.
