Hey There Graham,
I got my 17" high res macbook pro last week and most everyone I talked to beforehand said get the matte finish which I did. No complaints so far and it just seemed like the way to go to lessen reflections. Mark |

The glossy screen is a bad idea in my opinion. I have seen both and hate the glossy one. It reflects way too much, so finding a suitable position for the screen can be a challenge. That's probably why Apple hasn't offered glossy screens until now, and why they still have it as an option rather than a default.

the glossy screen is gorgeous, and if you can control your environment then its by far superior choice, no contest ... but if you are editing on the road and/or are unable to control the edit environment then those reflections will suck the life out of you. for a road warrior edit setup I'd always recommend the matte finish
