Render FCE

I am trying to render a clip and FCE says I don't have enough disk space. I have 35gigs free in Hardrive and a huge external where the scratch is. ???

MBP 2.16, 2 gigs ram, FCE, 1t mybook external

check your scratch disks

I'm guessing that my external scratch disk was sleeping. ...for some reason that happens alot.
