Workaround - connecting audio clips to gap clips?

I'm trying to lay down an audio bed by connecting an audio clip to a gap clip. But for some reason the snapping feature doesn't work with gap clips. So when I try to connect the audio clip to the start of the gap clip it just slips and slides around, occasionally trying to insert itself onto the storyline. Urrrrrgh .... I just hate it when my timeline actions aren't accurate.

Is there an elegant and proper way to do this? Like a way to specify exactly where a clip is connected to another clip?

My current workaround is to position the playhead at the beginning of the gap clip by using up/down arrow key then snapping the audio clip into place with the playhead.

Thanks in advance for any advice.
