Software to capture on a standard hdisk

The hdisk recorders from firestone and citydisk must use software to capture with – is it possible to get the software and install it on a 2½” hdisk and put the disk in a cabinet with firewire connection and use it to capture direct from the camera.

The prices from Firestone are very expensive when I compare it with the price for a standard hdisk – it would be great if it was possible to pay for the software and then installed it on a bigger and cheaper hdisk.

kind regards

even if you get a copy of a citidisk or firewire software, you need to make it run into a processor (what is missing into a simple harddisk).
possibly all these device run a windows CE or linux OS, possibly even a simple controller and a very basic processor since capturing DV stream does not involve any processing on the stream itself.
