GCam
Has anyone tried this out yet?
This was originally writen for the iSight. however, it recognizes just about any DV camcorder attatched to the firewire port. I tried it a little with my XL 1s and was able to record direct to my laptop with no problems. Since it's a small app, it lacks a lot of features, like choosing where you want to capture to: it automatically dumps all the video files to your desktop. You also have to press record on the application in order to begin recording footage. If any of you have time to test it out, I'd like to know how the video quality stacks up against more conentional DTE solutions like the firestore. Obvioously a firestore would be more conenient since it's right on your camera or attatched to your body. Going back and forth to the laptop to start and end recording sessions might be a pain too. But the simple fact that this applicaion is free kind of makes those inconveniences workable for me. hehehe. |
