Minimum Requirements for Laptop Recording
I need 3 laptops for tapeless HD recording from 3 Canon A1s. This is for inside, studio work. We want to use them for recording and monitoring live footage.
I assume they don't need to be top of the line, but we're looking at some refurbished Dells. Would you say the below system is overkill? (Sorry for the bad formatting on the cut/paste). Select $699.00 Studio 17 - 1745 Midnight Blue Intel Core 2 Duo - 2200 Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 17.30 500 GB SATA Hard Drive (7200 RPM) 4000 RAM DVD/RW Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD Intel WiFi Link 5100 802.11a/g/n Draft Mini Card Laptop |

You should be fine. I capture HDV live from my Sony FX-7 through Vegas without a problem. My laptop is an AMD Turion 64 dual core rated at 1.8ghz with 2 gigs of ram. I capture to an external USB drive.
