DTE options
I would like to know which DTE - Firestore or QuickstreamDV - is compatible with the SONY VX2100. Firestore seems to be quite bulky. Are there threads already available on this subject? I am looking for comparative pricing and ease of use and would like to hear from those already using these add-ons.
Thanks. |

Hello Malcolm,
I think your decision depends on two things, primarily -- which camcorder you're using and how you intend to use it. FireStore seems best suited for the Canon XL1S and larger camera systems, although I have seen it configured for a Canon GL2. FireStore offers hot-swappable drives and is perfect for professional news gathering applications. QuickStream is more compact and perhaps better suited to smaller camcorders. It can certainly be used in a professional capacity, but it does not contain a removeable drive. Either system may be used with the VX2100. Hope this helps, |

Hi Malcolm,
Just to clarify, DTE Technology is a unique solution and trademark of Focus Enhancements and refers to products such as those in the FireStore product line. DTE Technology currently supports seven different native NLE file formats and is also used in products from JVC professional and Ikegami. I think you are referring to Direct-to-disk devices rather than "DTE" devices. Best regards, Matt McEwen |

Matt, he probably meant DTE as stated, but if that's a Firestore Technology as you mentioned, then it's probably just because it's been hijacked. I've seen many many people talk about wanting a "DTE" solution andgoing on to talk about all solutions in this area.
Call it flattery. I work for Symantec Ghost, and seeing as we pretty much invented hard drive cloning, so many people just say they're "Ghosting" a drive no matter what solution they use. Aaron |
