Laptop as DTE and monitor

Hi,

Can anybody suggest a small laptop for DTE and monitoring?

I'm new to the whole tapeless recording situation, so I am not sure what a "DTE" is...but I have a Sony FX1 and a couple of laptops running Vegas Pro 8c. I have captured HDV via the iLink (firewire) interface from the camera on playback, but would really like to use a laptop and an external hard drive to capture a live video stream from the camera. I am not sure if this is what you are referring to or not though. I have been searching the forum for some details or other's experience on this, but thus far have found nothing.

So I'd be interested in anyone's experience with this recording technique.

Thanks in advance.
