Reverse trigger solution?

I have a recurring problem in that I tend to think I'm recording (to tape) on my XHA1 when im actually in pause.
I cant seem to shake it from happening every now and again.

What Im thinking is would there be a tapeless device that could help me with this problem?

Perhaps a setting to contantly and automatically record everything as long as the camera is switched on.

Im looking for a form of backup to this potentially dangerous problem.

Thanks,
Ger.
