I would have edited it a lot tighter - cut out the sloping horizon pan at the start; the wobbly handheld sections, and the out-of-focus clip as he walked out of the water.

I agree Tony, and will probably do a re-cut at some point. The thing is i have many shots of different things and these shots matched up having been shot during the same half hour. I quite like the shot that is out of focus, but it probably needs to go. I come from a video background and found this camera pretty tough to get used to as far as focus and exposure.
Also, i was primarily on holiday, and most of the time didn't have a tripod handy. FCP's Smoothcam filter has been used liberally, but it's not ideal. The camera's amazing, but the results i've got are hit and miss due to my inexperience with it. It's a major step up from my XHA1 in many respects, but a lot harder to operate. |

Hi Don
This stuff is from a few rice fields between Hoi An and the beach (5 kms away), but we went to Sapa, Saigon, Nha Trang, Hue and Hanoi too. Here's another one: Dragonlands on Vimeo Dom |

Ah, no where near where I was some 40 years ago.
It is a beautiful country.

Sounds like you were there for the er "troubles" Don?
Vietnam is fantastic. I've lived in China, and it's a real joy to see the best traditions of Taoism, Confucius, Buddhism etc, alive and happening before your very eyes. The Chinese communists have done their best to turn much of their country into a dreary cess-pit, but the Vietnamese communists seem not to have been afflicted with the brain -dead philistinism of their northern neighbors. After 3 years living in China, i'd say Vietnam offers the best experience of classical Chinese culture i've come across in Asia so far. People are very cool about being filmed/photographed too. |
