Talk about being in the right place at the right time... according to his notes (his data generated by http://www.calsky.com/), he had to shoot from a corridor on Earth (he was in Florida) that was only 5.6 kilometers wide, and the transit of Atlantis across the face of the sun was an event lasting only 8/10ths of a second. He used the "spray and pray" method, firing a burst that began two seconds before the event, and got lucky with one frame.
The photograph, plus the effort and planning he put into making it, just astounds me. |
