Perya - a Canon 7D short
Jason Magbanua Jason Magbanua is offline September 9th, 2009, 07:05 AM

Hi all! I'm really from the wedding forum but I (and my excellent videographer friends) had the great opportunity to test out the Canon 7D.

Here's what we came up with -

Thanks for watching!

Canon Philippines lent us a pre-production model of the 7d. We got it Tuesday 6pm and had to return it the following Thursday at noon.

We wanted to document something truly Filipino and came up with the idea of shooting a "Perya". There really is no direct equivalent in English. It's not as grand as a carnival, not as permanent and posh as an amusement park, there are no pumpkins nor cows in competition like a country fair. It is what it is - a Perya.

Shot in 1920 x 1080 at 24p. Transcoded to XDcam codec. Edited in Premiere Pro CS3.

No color grading was utilized.

No additional lights used.

Fabulous stuff

Yey !!!!!! At last a decent short where there isn't the rampant abuse of depth of field.Great use of the tool......I personally find razor thin DOF a little annoying to watch and you nailed it just right.Perhaps the camera with a crop sensor helps with that as well - keep it up!!!

Completely amazing quality and beautiful idea plus great compositions and colors. Looks like a promising camera. Which lens did you use?

Stunning! I'm actually acting as a gaffer/AC on an independent feature long project for kids using a 5D Mark II. We can't go back shooting narrative with video camera after using these DSLR...!

I've raved about this and posted it on to many people. As Alan says, content is king. And what you have created is a fantastic little story and told it beautifully.

Good Job Jason.

You guys did us proud. I was in Hidalgo last week to check on good ol' Ramon, he said 7d will be there by October. Do you have any info from the Canon people when in October they'll start shipping to the dealers?
I have a tourism location shoot with lotsa dark and challenging scenes, I could hold it off till I can get this cam to intercut with our JVC's.

Again, thanks for the great preview you guys did.

Mabuhay!
