Help on DVD formats

Can anyone direct me to a post or an article or anything that relates to a good explaination of the various DVD formats such as +R -R etc.

Are there different uses for them. Is any one better than the others.

I have been archiving shoot tape by using a Sony DV direct recorder and it will handle +R -R etc. I have done it with both formats.

Thanks

i'd stick w/ DVD-R if youre dealing with alot of clients
if it's for yourself, then +R is fine if your own equipment plays it back
