dvd burn time ?

Greetings

I'm using Premiere Elements 2.0 and burning a DVD at 8 MBPS. Burn times seem to be around 6:1 (I.e. 6 hours to burn for a 1 hour AVI).

Is that ratio about right for a 1.8 GHhz Pentium M processor with 1.25 GB or RAM? Would lowering the bit rate for the burn help much in terms of transcode/burn time? And if so, is there a 'sweet spot' for the bit rate?

Sorry if this question has been asked before. I did a search but couldn't find a similar post.

Johng
