Hey, it is 6:14 am in Atlanta and the ticker on CNBC news stated that Toshiba is announcing their HD DVD player. No price stated. Bob

Several online stores (e.g. Amazon, Best Buy) have been taking pre-orders for a while now at $499 each. Unfortunately, most people seem to think Sony will win the format war with their more expensive Blu-ray solution, so I don't think I'd spend money just now on the Toshiba.

A dual player would be a much smarter buy for this format war. If Bluray wins, you can still watch Bluray and the few HD-DVD titles you bought, the reverse happens if HD-DVD wins. Not everybody wins, but you, the consumer, does.
Any idea when and/or if a dual player is coming out?

Blu Ray is nice technology....but $999 for Sony and Samsung's player $1499 for Panasonic's player $1800 for the Pioneer Elite Holy crap that's expensive and that's been Blu Ray's achilles heel. Nice stuff but a wee bit expensive when compared to HD DVD which starts at $499 |

Pricing like that will be the nail in Blu Ray's coffin. It might be better than HD-DVD, but not enough to command twice the price.
