How do I burn dvd with G4 quick silver? at DVinfo.net

I've been doing music (audio) production for some 20 years. Now I've gotten into video. (YEAH, I'm very excited) I'm almost done with my 1st project, but I need some help in this final leg.

So far I have figured out how to shoot, import, edit &, of course, add the audio. I now have a short film I'd like to burn to a dvd.

PROBLEM: I have an older G4 quicksilver WITHOUT a super drive.

I have already purchased &/or aquired the items I (think) I need.

iMovie (used to create the video, very easy to use)
Final Cut Express (own it, haven't used it)
Lacie d2 DVD+/- (that's + over -)
PatchBurn4.0.0a4
iLife '05
2 external 250GB LaCie drives for storage
fire wire patchbay - installed

I know there are work arounds for this, but I haven't had much luck in this final step.

The d2 La Cie drive will work very well. Once you have completed your project, you need to compress your project into .aiff and .mpg files. I use Final Cut Pro and Compressor, so I'm not as familiar with your other software. The iLife package most certainly will do this for you. iDVD will assemble your project into a DVD format, and should write to your La Cie. In the event it doesn't recognize the La Cie, Toast will do it very nicely. I use Toast (and a Quicksilver DP) for all of my burns.

Read the documentation that came with your packages -- there's a wealth of info in there. And, there are some great tutorials at this site:

I think I owe you a drink or something. At least a big thanks for your help.

6 months after starting on this venture, I FINALLY finished my first dvd in which I could place into my home dvd player & it actually worked the way it was supposed to. It just a little 3.5 minuet music video I made for my brother's birthday, but I finally completed the entire process.

It was much easier than I thought. Now it's time to do the big project that started this entire endeavor.
