Adding background music from DVD
I guess that if the DVD is being sold to participants of an event - such as a marathon - and I added a Beatie boys sound track - I would be violating copyright laws?

Yes.
According to resident IP lawyer, Paul Tauger, the law states that even if you *give* the DVD away, it's still infringement -- in fact, just the act of synching the song to the DVD images is infringement. This question will undoubtedly get moved to the appropriate Taking Care of Business forum, where Paul may see it and make a comment |

Hi James,
If you use any music that you do not have permission to use, then you are violating copyright law!!! The way around it is to: 1) Get copyright permission from the people whose music you wish to use 2) Buy copyright free music 3) Make your own music They all have their pros and cons. Using somebody else’s music in your production without obtaining the correct permission is a violation of the Law. Thanks, Ed PS A super mod will be over in a minute to move the thread to the correct forum.
