External DVD burner for Mac??
I am starting to look around for an external DVD burner for my G4 (which is about two years old, BTW). I really don't know what to start looking for. I am using FCP3 and my harddrive is 40GB. Any ideas of what I might need or could use?
I had been looking at ... TDK indiDVD burner at Best Buy. Would this work on the G4 or is there something better? I am pretty much lost on this. Thanks! |

I am so new to this DVD burning stuff. So what DVD burning software is there? What would you suggest? (Yes, I am lost on all this DVD burning. So much to learn! :-) Thanks! |

If you are going with an external burner, you'll need DVD SP or Toast. iDVD will not work with an external burner.

Oaky, I think I get what your saying.
So, over on apple.com they have LaCie DVD burner with, I think, Toast 6. Here's the link.. http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/72303/wo/IhTnMPrwKcIz3QwgaL4279ukO5T/1.3.0.5.10 If this works it would even be cheaper than the other I was looking at. Thanks Jeff for the help! I am learning...... slowly. |

That LaCie drive didn't say it supports DVD Studio Pro, it mentions CAPty DVD software for making a DVD.
I bought an external DVD burner at my local store and I couldn't get DVD Studio Pro to work with it, took it back and found out most external burners come with their own DVD authoring software. I only use DVD Studio Pro so I searched and found a drive that supports DVD Studio Pro. Although I can't get Toast to burn the DVD, I use the Mac utility Disk Copy to burn the actual DVD. The drive I got is this one: http://store.mcetech.com/Merchant2/m...de=SD4FWUSB2-D Whatever software you use to author your DVD, make sure that drive will support it. I sent that company a lot of email making sure I could use the drive with a DVD Studio Pro authored file. Hope this helps.

You can use iDVD if you have an Apple SuperDrive DVD burner. Lacking an internal drive you will want to invest in Toast and an external burner. I have several Pioneer burners, the latest AO7, and I'm very pleased with them.

I can't find the Apple SuperDrive DVD burner on the Apple Web site.
Why can I buy one? |
