External DVD burner question
Hello,
i am thinkg about buying an external DVD burner, probably the Sony..I am wondering if the speed of the drive is the same as an external device?? Burning and reading speeds the same?? Any disadvantages (beside price is higher) ?? Can you move from machine to machine ?? Thanks, mike m. |

I have the top of the line external Sony drive...Too lazy to look up the Serial number. Reading speeds, very comprable, it might be a little bit slower, but nothing noticeable at all. Write speeds, same thing. Since I don't have an internal DVD writer, I can't compare, but CD write speeds are the same, and the DVD write speed is pretty quick. I can burn a whole DVD (Completely full) in about 45 minutes...That's with menus and all of that jazz. It will most definitely be slower if you use the USB cable, however. Use the firewire, but if necessary (when going between computers), I'm sure the USB should suffice.
