Installing Pioneer DVR-105 on PowerMac G4
Hi,
I tried to install ILife and could not install IDVD 3. I have Pioneer DVR-105 dvd burner installed on my G4 powermac through an Apple-certified store. I get an error message that says I need a superdrive. Apple says I should have bought the superdrive when I bought the computer and they don't support DVD burner that are installed later. I can use IDVD 1. Is there something I can do to get IDVD 3 install and work? Thanks, Leland |

Hey Leland, what's the firmware version of your drive?

Apple is correct. iDVD will not recognize DVD burners that are not Apple OEM. Why? Apple pays a licensing fee on each SuperDrive they install. The fee is not paid on customer installed drives and drives installed by 3rd parties (even Apple Certified).
Several retailers have released burners that can be recognized by iDVD, only to be told by Apple's legal department to cease and desist. There is really no work around that doesn't risk damage or void the warranty on your Pioneer DVD burner. Sorry.
