What info is needed for proof of 'music rights'?

Hi,

What type of 'proof' do you need? I own Smart Sound's Sonic Fire Pro 3.x and have several CD's of their's that are mine to use as I please.

What 'verification' do you need for my music?

Thanks,

Jim

You might try exploring the files on each disc to see if there is a license agreement. Print it and attach a copy of your sales receipt. This was satisfactory for when I had to provide music licenses for DVD replication.

I knew I forgot to ask something! I'm in a similar boat, James; the guy who wrote the music I'm using is from Finland, and somehow I doubt I can get written permission from him in the mail by the deadline. Hell, even if I asked for it the moment I knew I wanted to use his work, I can't imagine it having arrived by now.

If I may direct the question to Dylan, what precisely will each of us be required to provide in the way of proof? I may be up the creek on this one if I need actual hand-signed documents...

Just be prepared to provide proof if a question arises. I am not aware that anyone had an issue come up in the last competition. Obviously, if you are using a recognizable Elvis Presley song, there could be a problem, but most home grown or canned music is recognizable as that, and there probably won't be any issue.

The thing you have to realize is about copyright itself. Not just this forum or rejection by the judges. A cease and desist letter or anything by a lawyer is the real smack in the face. So, if YOU know it's cool and that your covered, then no worries.

What Chris said, just be prepared to provide proof is a problem arises.
