thedvchallenge.com
Mark Utley made the suggestion that everybody chip in a few bucks for hosting their video on thedvchallenge.com for DVC6
I'd like to do this for DVC5! My suggestion is to set up a separate domain (maybe dvchallenge.org), which a group of us use to host our videos. We will have to give access rights to all of us so we can all ftp our videos to the site, but we don't want to compromise thedvchallenge.com site. We could have the site up and working by Monday if there are enough of us that are interested. Dick |

I'd definitely be interested. My ISP has only allotted me 25MB for space and that's pretty used up. I was going to have to do some heavy "housecleaning" to make room for my entry....if I ever get done with the @#$% thing!! Let me know how much.

How much space can the guarantee and, can they set up for streaming vs holding the file as a download? Just curious.

Time Limit
I noticed several of the past challenges are unavailable, I suppose, due to limited space, so what time limit and capacity will be imposed on this new FTP site?

As long as you're the one doing the math, count me in. Even if I end up on the Wall o' Shame this time, I'm bound to get something done sometime this year.
Thanks for your work on this.

Here's the deal
Looks like best deal, storage/bandwidth/reliability is with Lunarpages
http://www.lunarpages.com/index.php Says you get 400G transfer/month and up to 5G storage, but when you go to order it turns out you it costs 7.95/month for a year, and you are limited to 1000M of storage for that. Still the best deal in turns of bandwidth allowed. I can spring $100 for a year of storage, and it would allow ten of us to have 100M storage each for hosting videos. We would also have 40GB transfer a month, so if our average video was 40M that would be 100 views per month. I'll set up and spring for the site if we have a half dozen others interested. Or if anyone else wants want to do the hosting stuff, I'm willing to paypal $10 to store my videos. Let me know. Dick |

I personally wouldn't have a problem if my bandwidth was being used by thedvchallenge.com for a video I submit. Same would probably go to anyone else that already has a website or ways of hosting videos on their own dime.

If you guys are interested, I'll check with the Austin-based company that hosts DV Info Net and The DV Challenge, and find out what their monthly charge is for a media server. That way you're guaranteed great service, not to mention keeping it in the family.

Free hosting but you retain copyright. I'll probably go for one of these two options. |
