Audience Fav for DVC4
Could we create an audience Fav for next DVC4? I also would still like to see a first time filmmaker award to keep encouraging first-timers to enter.

It depends if this forum allow you to attach polls. And it could be a problem if not all movies are released at the same time. I mean if just 10 are released and someone is watching now he will probably choose one of those 10. Or the poll could be closed until all are released or all will be released at once.
I think you might have a point about rookies. Maybe a special award or something - "best newcomer" :) But when are you a newcomer and when are you not?

We went a round or two on this after DVC2. I think the reason was, I have over twenty-(mumbles something unintelligble) years in television with NBC, local stations and various major post houses. However, as anyone in TV can tell you, you pretty much specialize. Tape guys in live sports events pretty much just do tape, Studio camera guys only do camera, etc. Sure there is some cross training but it is highly unlikely you will ever find a Writer, Producer, Director, Camera, DP, LD, Editor, Tape Guy, Grip, Engineer doing everything themselves with a show.
So, even though I had been in it a long time, I had never (since school) written, edited my own script, pulled together the locations, directed, shot, etc my own full complete video/film. That made me sort of a first timer, sort of. See the older post-DVC2 threads for some ideas. I have no real answers except to say once again, it's rare for a person to do all that, especially if they have a career TV background. Sean (Bring on DVC4) McHenry

We need more people making films - and especially more women. I think future DVC should look to actively get more women in the directors chairs. |

Agreed. I sent a letter of invitation to the girls at the Playboy Mansion, but no response. I came very close to doing an FanFav award on this one, but wasn't sure how I could implement it fairly. It would have to be voted on exclusively by the filmmakers, I think.

About the fan-favourite voting, it would only be fair of the polls opened AFTER the deadline. That way, people aren't using up their vote without being able to see all the entries.
