Customer digital download option question at DVinfo.net

I have a client that wants to do digital downloads and I have a few questions that someone here might have an answer.

I'm on Mac and working in Avid, PP etc...

The file needs to be played on PC & Mac.
I've rendered out a h.264.mov file but now I'm questioning myself that PC can play this.
The file is 3Gig

How are you offering Digital Downloads?
Via your own server
Host Server

The market intended is for the Chinese market with pay per view, or download.

I use smugmug.com for digital downloads. The only challenge is they re-render the file, which is kinda annoying.
