How do you create an MPEG-2 file with embedded audio?
Can anyone tell me how I can export a dv file as a MPEG-2 Quicktime movie with the audio intact (muxed)? As far as I can tell, Compressor and Quicktime only create separate video and audio files. This is fine for DVD authoring, but I need to be able to double-click on the file and watch it right from my desktop. Making a DVD image is not an option.
Any suggestions appreciated.

You can encode program streams with Cleaner on the mac but other than that you're looking at pc apps I'd of thought. Unless a tool at dvdrhelp can do it!
You may want to check the sorenson app too cause that may and also the manual here incase it makes program streams: http://www.mainconcept.com/ Jake |

Thanks for the suggestion.
Actually, I'm on the Mac. I thought of using cleaner, but it's too expensive (and slow according to reviews) for what I need it for. I found a freeware app the other day that does what I need. MPEG Streamclip http://www.alfanet.it/squared5/ It's a very handy tool to have.

Don't you need Apple's MPEG2 Playback component to get that to work? If not, please let me know!

I'm not sure. I have Apple's MPEG-2 playback component installed because it comes with DVD Studio Pro, which I own. I guess it doesn't hurt to give it a try, since it is a freeware app -- MPEG Streamclip, that is.
