Book on compression
Does anyone have any recommendations on a book on video compression? I'd like to get something that explains the various codecs (the most common ones, anyway) with pros and cons, when to use what, etc. Any input would be appreciated.

Digital Video Compression, by Symes
I read the 2004 edition of the book and found it very useful.

Thanks.
I ordered a copy of that one along with "Introduction to MPEG; MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4" - that should get me started, I figure.

I read the MPEG one, and if you have no previous knowledge about MPEG, it's a decent introduction. It's marred by some typos and poor editing, but the content is solid enough. Haven't gotten around to the other one. It's in my queue. :-)
