Saw that announcement last night. Thinking about getting a second one...perhaps not until some decent games come out though.

One game I'm looking forward to is Ratchet and Clank Future.

One that I think a action film buff would love is Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.

Almost there...

All they have to do now is drop the price again to a more affordable $299! Heck, I'd be willing to entertain the idea of $399- if it included 2 controllers and a game. Yeah, I might be cheap, but I still have yet to meet someone that can afford a PS3, all the add-on cables, and 2 or 3 games... Yeesh. That's almost a thousand bucks right there!

Yeah Shawn, tell me about it. I think my household has enough video game stuff (in total) to have purchased a RED One instead. Hahaha.

We just got The Darkness for the PS3 last week. My husband seems to be enjoying it a lot, I have not had time to start playing it yet.

We do enjoy the Bluray movies though. They area huge step up (in most cases) from standard DVDs.

Nice. Still haven't got a game for mine yet. Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is beckoning. :)

The PS3 is selling so well at Amazon that the sales have finally surpassed the X-BOX 360 and the Wii although you have to keep in mind that the Wii is probably still hard to find. Anyway people are quoting a 2400 to 2800% sales increase at that retailer. The fact that people are worried that Sony might discontinue the 60 gig unit is also helping the sales increase.

On top of all that Amazon is offering this deal:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.htm...pf_rd_i=507846
They were offering Memento instead of Resident Evil a few days ago. I wonder what caused them to change their mind.

You obviously get 5 free movies on top of that from the Blu-Ray disc Association and although their trying to use the same strategy as the HD DVD camp, they should have at least offered a better selection.

Basically you get a PS3, a Blu-Ray remote and 6 free movies for 500 dollars. Good deal but I predict that the sales increase will slow down a bit once Microsoft and Nintendo decreases their prices as well, hopefully by this year.

As for Sony’s new 600 dollar SKU, it includes Motor Storm but it’s a bad deal because for one thing you loose the emotion chip that allows you to play 99% of all PS2 games. With it gone, only 88% of PS2 games will work, and you only get a 20 gig increase which is most likely cheaper to produce than the 60 gig hard drive that is in the original PS3.

It’s a good thing Sony decided to lower the price in the US now rather than in a few months because if they didn’t the European PS3 sales would have surpassed the US sales by around the September time frame. That’s bad when you consider that the US had a 4 month head start. Hopefully those games that are coming out this year will kick start the Japanese sales because I don’t think Sony will lower their price.

By the way, the Samsung BD-P1200 is a much, much better unit if all you want is a Blu-Ray player and Amazon is selling it for 460 dollars.

On a related note, Microsoft is dropping the price of the HD-DVD player and each of the three current 360 variants.

August 12, from what i hear.

The HD DVD add-on is already 179 plus you also get 5 free movies just like the PS3.

Either the Blu-Ray or the HD DVD camp should allow the customer to choose at least 1 movie where they can actually pick any title they want. Choosing from a list can be a little frustrating.

Paulo, are you saying the Samsung gives you visibly much better PQ than PS3? I cant believe there could be a significant diff in PQ, having watched a large number of movies from my PS3.
Please explain what exactly the difference is. thx

Here are a few reviews:

http://www.hometheatermag.com/discplayers/707sam1200/
You might be able to find others

Also I’ve read a few personal reviews on the AVS Forums saying that the BD-P1200 performed better than many other players including the PS3 in the picture department. The new Denon player will be much better but it costs 2,000 dollars. As for the second generation Pioneer Blu-Ray player, I don’t know. Still, Samsung is about to release third generation players shortly.

Anyway, I don’t think the average person can notice a difference unless the original source came from 1080i.

If it was me choosing, Id definitely get the PS3. Besides playing videogames, The one important feature that this unit has over the rest is the ability to play HDV files off a data DVD. That’s something I really need.
