Really nice. Several can be daisy-chained through HDMI for higher channel counts, good. Hope the preamps are better though. My DR-70D is all right especially if used with high output microphones but my MOTU Traveler mk3 and Roland R-88 preamps are far quieter.
In such a small form factor it is probably not easy to cram 4 preamps together will all the other electronics, noise will not only be generated in the op-amp chips but will also be coming from nearby circuits.

If you need "pro" preamps, you are not going to get a "recorder + pro preamp" for under $3K (ie. Sound Devices). This is a GREAT unit as a bit dumper. Use pro preamps in front of it when needed. When you don't need pro preamps, use the ones included. A pro portable 2 channel preamp is going to cost you $1K alone.
Mics and preamps cost money.. the bit recorder is the cheap part. This does 4 channels at 24/192. And has nice level meters. Also has a 5/6 channel mixdown.. onto easy to move around SD cards. I wish they would take out those crappy internal front mics and make the unit smaller. |
