Omega Engineers Historic Live 4K Workflow at SXSW 2015
Omega Broadcast Group made waves this year during SXSW by engineering the world’s first 4K live video web stream of a music festival venue. XI Media, an Austin / NYC based live event video production company, approached Omega in 2014 with the goal of upgrading the 2015 Fader Fort to 4K.
Omega invited RED as a sponsor to provide the camera systems. RED provided four Epic Dragon 6K cameras equipped RED 4K Broadcast Modules and Nipros SMPTE fiber transmission systems. The production was switched with a Blackmagic Design 4K switcher, and the resulting 4K production video was encoded using the Cogo 4K Live encoding software from CogoHD, a local Austin video encoding company. Dell, a Fader Fort sponsor, provided a Precision Workstation to host the encoding software. In order to help the encoded 4K live video stream reach the audience over the internet, Omega brought in Stream Monkey, a streaming video specialist. Stream Monkey provided the content distribution network and built the custom video player, which was embedded on both theFader.com and RED.com websites. For a sales or rental quote on any of the items or services above, please call Omega at (512) 251-7778 or email sales@omegabroadcast.com. |
