LEVA 2005 review
Thanks to LEVA Director Rick Bravo I attended their 2005 Conference held in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho last week. What a blast!!! Besides Panasonic, Avid, and other great vendors, Sol from Anton Bauer was there showing off the STASIS and the Ultralight with soft box. Niiice gear for a gal from the sticks to finally get to see and hold. And if anyone reading this knows Sol, well……he’s a character.
Rick got me into the Power of Lighting workshops with Bill Holshevnikoff. Man, what a treat!! He packs a ton of great information into four ninety-minute workshops. And he gets a workout because he’s forever moving stuff around to show differences, showing what all the equipment can do, etc. He gave hands-on training for lighting at night (gosh, it was cold out there!), tips for lighting faces and tough interiors, talked about our preproduction tasks—I could go on and on. We also watched some of his beautiful work so he could illustrate much of the other stuff he was telling us. The man is great, that’s all I can say. And he had me drooling over the Chimera and Arri gear. The whole conference was quite a motivator, which I guess is the main goal of such events. I met some wonderful people who I now call friends, too. If nothing else, I want to get better at what I do and more involved so I can go back for more fun next year!!! (Now, really—isn’t FUN the main goal? ;) So, to Rick, as usual, I find myself in your debt. Thank you for making a place for me, and thanks again for taking such good care of me, too. You’re an amazing guy, and I love ya! Saving up for San Francisco next year!!
