DMW-YAGH Interface Unit for GH4 at $1999.99

Bundle them at $3299.99

Re: Prices Announced For GH4 and Interface Unit

Seems like the interface unit is disproportionately high, even bundled.

Re: Prices Announced For GH4 and Interface Unit

Hi

I'm guessing this a "professional" tax by Panasonic for the Interface unit.

Those that have the need for it, can afford it.

Regards

Phil

And then you still need an expensive recorder that can capture 4k at 4:2:2 10bit, with the camera, batterybrick and recorder added together you definitely will need to have a shouldersupport of some kind, so that's another extra cost..

I agree about the "professional tax". providing something like this has never been offered before even at this generally high price for the average person, so I am glad they are at least providing it, since most other professional systems are 20k or more. Everyone wishes it was not 2k for the 10bit 422 attachment but you only have the blackmagic as an alternative in this price range and you are not going to get autofocus like the gh4 on the blackmagic, this is the reason I think justifies buying it, and the weather sealing and what I presume will be ipad wifi live control like on the gx7.

+1 to Phil Lee
it is a "tax" , they will never change. Charge for what people can do with it, not for what it is. Old moneymaking gold mine philosophy of all the video vendors pre-D90 era and now back with the GHseries. Sad.

I suspect they will sell many more camera bodies than interface units - so is it not largely the effects of economies of scale?

Fewer units sold to recoup the R&D and fixed production costs on?

Same with the XLR adaptor for Sony cameras - http://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/in...phones/xlr-k1m - that's nearly about half as much again as the basic camera. But likewise not likely to sell anything like as many as camera bodies.

The Panasonic box obviously offers a lot more, but I wonder how many people would just be satisfied by the XLR/audio features offered by such as the Sony box? Bearing in mind how much smaller/lighter/cheaper it is.
