ARRI Amira revealed!
Very nice. A shoulder mount cam. Looks like the modern digital version of the Arri SR.
ARRI AMIRA unveiled at DV Info Net I also noticed on the ARRI website that they've stopped selling all of their film cameras. They're now fully digital cinema. |

Re: ARRI Amira revealed!
I was at an Arri Alexa demo recently and one of the Arri guys mentioned a lower cost camera coming from them at IBC.

Re: ARRI Amira revealed!
While ARRI is positioning this as documentary/run and gun camera, from what I'm seeing it has a lot of potential to replace the Alexa as the defacto episodic TV camera as well, where 1080 and at most ProRes4444 are the standard capture medium. Smaller and lighter (I'm assuming, can't find weight specs yet) and most importantly, cheaper. Will be great for handheld and Steadicam. Looks like a great design.

Re: ARRI Amira revealed!
Charles, I think your assessment is spot on.
I've heard mention of the camera in the $20,000 range, sans lens. I wonder if that would also include the EVF? I wouldn't be surprised if it comes closer to the F55 in price. Just speculation. |

Re: ARRI Amira revealed!
My impression from that Arri guy was a camera that could be afforded by an individual DP shooting broadcast type work.

Re: ARRI Amira revealed!
Just what I have been waiting for. I wonder if the shoulder plate, VF will be a separate purchase.

Re: ARRI Amira revealed!
Looking at the 3d renderings, I think we ought to dub this the Arri "skinny cam"
Pretty impressively slim which should make it pretty light, but nice that it has the full traditional shoulder mount form factor for those of us accustomed to shooting that way. Interesting.

Yes this is just a photo we took of the poster near the booth at #ibc2013 but we have lots of other photos in the set from the show:

Re: ARRI Amira revealed!
Looks great. I'm glad someone finally "did it." Ticks off all the boxes for what we've always tried to make other large sensor cameras into. Compact, the right recording formats, viewfinder/shoulder pad/battery all in the right place. I also like how simple the whole package is compared to your typical modular cinema camera. Would be wonderful to shoot with besides that nagging price issue of the Fujinon 19-90mm you'd also simply HAVE to get with it...

Re: ARRI Amira revealed!
That's the trick isn't it? The Cabrio is the obvious choice for this camera but to pay nearly double the cost of the camera for the lens? I hope more affordable fast S35 zooms come to market soon.

Re: ARRI Amira revealed!
Difficult combination to do lens wise, fast, good zoom range, lightweight, high quality build and cheap. I suspect the 3 to 1 zoom will tend to be one that covers most of the these factors on S35 cameras.
