SHARP announces 32-inch, IGZO, 4K AV monitor
Sharp to Introduce PN-K321 LCD Monitor | Press Releases | Sharp Global
Sharp to launch world's thinnest 4K monitor for $5,500 - Computerworld (Error in the article: The reference should be to a 90-inch, rather than an 80-inch, TV.) Sharp to sell ultrathin IGZO 4K LED display | Crave - CNET 4K UHD Sharp IGZO Display, a Professional Monitor - Softpedia [Disclaimer: I work for Sharp Labs of America (though not for the division that makes monitors). I had nothing to do with the product or the articles.] The bottom line that this is a UHD (3840x2160) monitor that can be used as a monitor or AV display - it has both DisplayPort and HDMI connectors. (It's not a "TV" as there are no 4K broadcast standards; hence, there is no tuner.) Yes, it's thin, but the bigger news is that it's IGZO, which is the very latest LCD technology. It offers a much faster response time, which will eliminate motion artifacts, and offers a much larger aperture, which has multiple performance and efficiency benefits. Unlike most other brands, SHARP manufactures its own large and high-end panels in Japan. Should be a nice solution for 4K editing and playback.

What would you need to drive one of those? I am talking about PC graphics cards.

Re: SHARP announces 32-inch, IGZO, 4K AV monitor
Hmm... 443ppi. A lot of folk have been complaining about the Photoshop interface with high res displays for a while now, and I not sure how well the Retina display update will address that. If Adobe have simply increased the interface icoc sizes to cope with Retina displays, then will a 3840 x 2160 30 inch display put them on the back foot again?
I doubt that screen is even close to my price range, so somebody else's problem. ;-) [EDIT] A news at Mac Observer says December 11th http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/artic...aign=tmo_waylf

Re: SHARP announces 32-inch, IGZO, 4K AV monitor
Here's a 4K graphics card shootout from June...
The 4K Graphics Card Shootout - Bright Side Of News* Once the detailed monitor specs are released, I recommend comparing 4K graphics cards while ensuring that the DisplayPort and/or HDMI connections are at least at the same version as the monitor. My understanding is that you can get 60 Hz from a single DisplayPort connection but you will need dual HDMIs for that rate. HDMI will support Ultra HD at 24fps, which is fine for movies but not so good for general computer usage.
