Pre-NAB 4K+ Roundup

I expect 4K to be a popular topic at NAB. For those of us trying to cram the show into a day or so, it might be helpful to compile a list of 4K products that we will (and might) see...

RED - Epic and Scarlet-X will certainly be at the show. RED RAY (a 4K player) has been shown previously in prototype form. RED is committed to 4K (and beyond) so no telling what else we might see.
RED.com

Sony - Sony has the F65 and 4K projectors. They recently announced the NEX-FS700 which will deliver 4K to an external recorder.

JVC - The GY-HMQ10 camera records 4K.
http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/jvc-gy-h...w-cam-jvc.html

Canon - When Canon announced the C300 and Canon's new Hollywood Professional Technology and Support Center, they also spoke of a 4K DSLR to be introduced around the end of the year. It's unlikely that we will see anything at NAB, but you never know.
http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/digital-...announced.html

I don't know of any 4K camera announcements from Panasonic or Hitachi at this time.

Of course, most any high-resolution stills cam can shoot 4K time lapse, but that's not really news.

I believe that all the major NLEs (Avid, Apple, Adobe, Sony) can handle 4K, true? Are there others?

I'm sure that my list is incomplete. If people are aware of other cameras, monitors, projectors, and other announced 4K products, please add a post with the details. This would also be a great place to add new, pre-NAB announcements of 4K products as they become available.

As always, Chris likes a clean forum, so when there are threads dedicated to specific products, please list the product here and include a link to that thread so the detailed discussions happen in the right place. Let's keep this thread as more of a clearinghouse so we can easily plan our 4K NAB tours.

Re: Pre-NAB 4K+ Roundup

The Aaton Penelope Delta should be at NAB, they seem to be planning for their first digital camera to be available later in the year. http://www.aaton.com/files/delta-p_sept-2011.pdf

I haven't seen the Lightworks NLE final spec yet, but I'd imagine it'll have 4K in some form, certainly it will be able to handle RED as one of the licensed codecs. The impression I get is that they're aiming for NAB for the release version. Will it become a major player again? That could be an interesting question.

Sorry, Chris. Unfortunately, the substitute link doesn't detail the interchangeable-lens version as well as the original link.

JVC 4K interchangeable-lens version?! Its April 5th, better not be another joke that's 4 days late.

If there is official info on that camera, it deserves its own thread. Please, post a link / start a thread.

I did post it, and it was removed. Google "JVC interchangeable lens 4K" -- you'll find a few hits. It's got a 1.25-inch (approximately m4/3) sensor, outputs four streams like the GY-HMQ10U, and supposedly will cost $10K or so.

Editshare will be demoing Lightworks, but I now suspect that perhaps the actual release version won't be be available until after NAB. They're currently testing it and say they're delighted with the performance. Hopefully the long public beta test of the new Windows Lightworks has wrung out any remaining bugs (this being different to the old turnkey Lightworks), although some people are using the beta on actual productions.

I should mention that Aja and Blackmagic both offer 4K capture and playback cards...

Also, RED offers the RED ROCKET accelerator and playback card.

Actually Avid Media Composer handles 4K Red files by dowrezing it to 2K and slightly cropping it to 1920 X 1080. It does not have a 4K project size. Avid DS does do 4K natively.

Re: Pre-NAB 4K+ Roundup

Ace Unitech has a few 4K+ recorders, including one that records uncompressed up to 1.2G pixel/s. It's programmable to handle various combinations, including 8k/4k, 3D, 480Hz, 16bit, RGB. The interface is
Dual-Link DVI x 8ch.

They also have lower spec 4K recorders, a camera mountable 2K recorder, and a 4K 3D monitor.

I have no affiliation with them and haven't used their products. Just adding them to the 4K thread.

The new info sheet is online; http://www.aaton.com/files/delta-p_april-2012b.pdf

The interesting bit is the new multi slot shutter idea, which allows the camera to be rated at 100 ISO and 800 ISO without ND filters and IR problems.

Re: Pre-NAB 4K+ Roundup

The above thread was for NAB 2012. Let's revive the thread for NAB 2013.

So... what's new?

RED has the Dragon sensor.
Sony has the F5 and F55.
Canon has the 1DC and 500C

Any other 4K camera news?

How about 4K recorders? 4K players? 4K (or UHD) displays? 4K video cards (in and/or out) for computers? Post press release and product links in this thread.

I'm curious to see if 4K/UHD is accelerating, steady, or stalling...
