new small HD DP4 shipping

Announcing the all new DP4 & DP4-EVF from SmallHD

This looks interesting but is it big enough for critical focusing?

Re: new small HD DP4 shipping

Looking at the specs, with composite HD in, do you guys reckon that you could then pull a clean HDMI out?
What I'm getting at is that you could use this device on say a Canon XHA1 which doesn't have a HDMI out, use this as a monitor then use a Ninja to capture the uncompressed signal from the HDMI out on the small HD.

Does this make sense?

Re: new small HD DP4 shipping

I think you meant component HD in--composite refers to SD.

The HDMI output is noted as a pass-through or loop-through, which generally indicates independence from the signal processing of the monitor, so it's unlikely it would exhibit the image from the component inputs.

It does share all the features of the DP6 including a peaking function although SmallHD has a video on their site that states that the DP6 would be better at critical focusing due to the higher resolution of the monitor. I would think the peaking would be very useful in this regard and probably good enough for most applications. I'd give them a call though if you have any doubts, they're a nice bunch of folks and local to me here in NC. I've been over to visit them a couple of times and it was always a worthwhile visit.
