Cheap video image stabilisation for all
Google has bought another company and its technology will be used on YouTube videos.
"The search giant has picked up Green Parrot Pictures, an Irish digital video technology company, whose image processing tech has been used in Lord of the Rings, X-Men and Spider-Man in recent years – but don't let that put you off." Re: Cheap video image stabilisation for all
I wonder how many people will be stupidly throwing away their tripods after this, replacing the "I'll fix it in post" with a "I'll fix it in upload" (to YouTube).
though hopefully, hopefully, hopefully, professionals won't be using this tool & it will be more for the common masses, making their youtube videos less horrible. :-) YouTube Contest Challenges Users To Make A 'Good' Video | The Onion - America's Finest News Source | Onion News Network

Re: Cheap video image stabilisation for all
Even with perfect x-y stabilization in post, there can be problems...
* If the camera position moved, the perspective changes. In post, you can stabilize the foreground or the background, but not both. * Camera movement with a normal shutter speed causes motion blur. Stabilizing in post will get rid of the shake, but not the blur. * Rolling shutter adds jello. Stabilizing in x-y won't remove the jello - but there's another plug-in for that! ;)

The stabilized footage does not look very good at all.
