New Field of View Comparison Tool

I posted a new tool on our site here - Field of View Comparator | CineTechnica

Mitch Gross recently published his sensor size comparison chart (http://blog.abelcine.com/wp-content/...final_1200.jpg), which is an excellent reference that has been very popular with our viewers. Following his lead, I developed this free online tool which allows you to compare different sensors at different focal lengths. We call it the Focal Length Comparator. Funny name I know, but it allows you to compare the fields of view of different sensors’ sizes at different focal lengths.

For instance, it can be used to visualize the field of view difference between a 50mm lens on a 2/3″ sensor and the same lens on an ARRI ALEXA sensor. I also threw in a bunch of extra information like crop factor, angle of view and specific sensor sizes. Check out the Field of View Comparator here - AbelCineTech - Field of View Calculator

Very cool, I wish they'd change the background photo. The photo looks like it was taken with a normal lens & so when you change the settings & go wide it doesn't look that wide & when you zoom in you're left with an empty shot.

At least it gives some reference point for the difference between FOV on different cameras.

I'd be happy to change up the photo.. just need to find something with a lot of detail and depth.

Really, really useful in the classroom!

Why not make a little app out of it with ability to add whatever image you want !

Please keep it available!

Very cool!
I like the name "Comparator"! I have to laugh a bit as it sounds like it's straight out of my kids favorite show, Phinneus and Ferb. Every episode has the Evil Dr. Doofenschmirtz inventing an ___erator. Like "shrinkenator" (ok I love that cartoon too!)

Gotta make an iPhone app version of your tool as i'd use it quite often. Also would be cool to add in a DOF calculator.
