Lightworks going open source

Just wondering if this deeper in the industry have any thoughts on this announcement...

EditShare Announces First Ever Lightworks Open Source Platform

I can't find much detail on the product, other than it seems well credentialled. Would love to know what platforms it runs on (would love to see a high end NLE available on Linux).

Thoughts?

This product caught my eye a few years ago when it was still owned by the UK company. But the closest unit to check out was at some community college in Brooklyn, NY, some 4 hours away from me. Has a dedicated controller associated with it and (then) ran around $8k. It's been thru a number of different owners over the years, never seems to gain traction to become well-known.
