Leica PL mount lenses

Searching for something else, I came across an announcement from Band Pro about a new line of 4K capable PL mount lenses for digital cinematography from Leica.

LEICA Summilux-C? lenses

All of them are primes, most probable full frame and not just S35, designed especially for digital cinema productions (follow focus, common diam. threads, etc), to be delivered after summer 2010.

Couldn't find a price, but I guess, honoring the Leica tradition, it won't be cheap.

It is interesting how many brands have now jumped on the cinema express, now that camera ownership has become so affordable.

Given that they mention 35mm cine, I'd assume they'll cover Super 35 at the most rather than FF35. Also, Otto Nemenz the well known rental house were involved in providing user input during the design. At the moment there's no market for cine style FF35, although that may change once RED bring out their larger sensor camera.

Since the new primes are probably adapted from Leica's still cameras lenses, I thought that they might be able to cover the FF sensor, although I never read anything to prove my theory.

They seem to be a brand new design, rather than adapted stills lenses. The focal lengths appear to be more cine than stills

Looks like Zeiss is the only game in town for EF mount cine lenses... I was hoping NAB would bring out some competition, but I guess not...

UniQoptics also released a set in EF mount. Matched t-stops across the range:

uniQoptics | Cinema Lenses, Hi-G lenses, mounts, adapters

Their PL series will also work on EF with an adapter they sell, as the rear element clears the mirror.

Hrm... with a name like Razor 7D I wonder if they cover the 5D's FF sensor? If so, that would be pretty sweet.
