Panasonic Teases $3,000 Flash Media HD Camcorder
Don't get excited.
Projected release date is September of 2006 (then again, that means it might be out before the XL-2) :) http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content...o-04_18_04.htm |

Yes
"During their press conference at NAB in Las Vegas today, Panasonic unveiled a small mockup P2 high definition flash media camcorder in the $3,000 price range."
Yup Frank, at NAB. And just to make sure we're speaking the same language here, that's an HD camera, not HDV. I assume it's DVCProHD. Unless they're going to come up with another format. Then again.... if they are saying September of 2006, it will probably be out in 2007 sometime. No reason to get too interesting in a camera we can't use for 3 years. I would hope also that the price of the P2 cards drops by the time this thing comes out. If not, you can look forward to spending $2100 to shoot 4.5 minutes of footage on your $3000 camera. CORRECTION: I just saw the last photo on that article. It shows a picture of the camera, and the title reads: MPEG 720P/1080i Yet the article makes it a point to say that the Panasonic reps never talked about HDV, and called the camera an HD camera. Ahhhhh - it's all vaporware anyhow. I shouldn't have even posted it. |

Thanks. Camcorderinfo is one of the extremely few websites I come across that crashes not only my browser but my whole computer. I end up having to do a hard boot and running scandisk. So I never go to there. It's poisen for my computers, even the one with WIN 98.

vaporware: promised technology that hasn't been delivered or defined yet.
For example, the ultimatte piece of vaporware is the XL-2 :) |

vaporware: N, slang
Non-existent software or hardware that has been marketed or promised against unlikely future delivery. Ex: a secure Windows server.

That secure Windows server killed me! LOL!
I heard something that the XL-2 would allegedly premiere at some other trade show, but that makes no sense whatsoever... heath

It'll premiere at some other later trade show. Later being the operative word there.

"Later being the operative word there"
What exactly are you saying Chris? (not that I really expect you to clarify) :) LATER this year? LATER this decade? Will it be shown, or available to buy? Can you throw us a bone kennelmaster? -Luis |

I think he was referring to the phrase, "later." Other than that, I would say no clue. Canon isn't forthcoming, much like everyone else in the video manufacturing business.
And, for XL-2 stuff, I will refer you to this page right here! heath

What do you mean Heath? Not forthcoming? Hell, Panasonic is already showing us what they'll put out in 2006!
:) Just Kidding. -Luis PS. and for the record...we may say 'no clue,' but I'm sure Chris knows when and where. |

I would say Chris likely has no idea. They don't tell just anyone what's up.
But here's the deal, we can all pretty much guarantee an XL-1s replacement will come out eventually and will definitely premiere at a later trade show. That guarantee is the same as me saying that my little nephew will say goo. It's just gonna happen. heath

I don't know the date, and even if I did, I couldn't say. Canon takes a different approach than other manufacturers by not showing mock-ups or prototypes. They show only what is available now. It's just a different marketing strategy than the other camera makers.
