I haven't seen it displayed in any cam shops yet. It's not out yet, as far as I know. Christmas maybe?

Yes, we have several threads on it already; I posted about it back on the day it was announced (see this thread). We'll have pro user reviews online here at DV Info Net as they become available,

>>Yeah, it's supposed to be out in December.<<

NAB would only be 3 months away from this date, Sony had better hope that no one comes out with a better camera by then (even though I think this cam is inferior to the DVX 100 as it is.)

>Not exactly cheap. The Panasonic AJ-SDX900 with the new FireWire connectivity and native editing DVCPRO-50 seems more appealing...

yes, but Sony uses very high-level camera part on these camcorders. At IBC they sayd that cheaper models are in work, as also HD version of XDCAM.

Perfect timing! TokyoVideoFestival

Thanks for the "heads-up". Originally a 40 min. program from 2001, I cut it to 18 minutes and just made the entry deadline.

It was filmed over several months chronicling the Miyazaki Jc's efforts to plan and execute a Beach festival and stimulate the economy of local beach community. Human interest, in Japanese. There is no online version but if it gets accepted then please take a look. Did you enter any programs?

Thanks, Vic

Damn! I missed the deadline.

This festival had my name all over it, too!

Can we get a special festival/contest section going?

The ultimate screen saver

If you're in New York, check out the SonicVision exhibit at the American Museum of Natural History.

It's basically a super high-tech version of the screen savers that pulse to music on your PC - except they're projecting the whole thing onto a planetarium dome at 180 degrees - with professional production video and sound quality.

DV Camps Launches JVC HD Event

Los Angeles, CA. (October 14, 2003)--A two-day hands-on JVC HD Camcorder workshop, the first such event in southern California, is slated for November 8-9 at Hollywood Studio Rentals, 2400 West Olive Avenue, Burbank, CA 91605.

Say hello to JVC’s groundbreaking JY-HD10U that puts high definition recording in the hands of everyone! Join us for a two-day A to Z HD Workshop and take an in-depth look at the world’s first affordable HDTV Pro-Camcorder. You’ll experience hands on camera shooting, learn sound recording techniques, compressed (Mpeg2 mp@ts) editing solutions with Premiere 6.5 and uncompressed HDSDI connectivity with Final Cut Pro 4.

Saturday’s session explores the cameras innovative technical achievements and allows plenty of time for hands on interior and exterior shooting. JVC’s tech pro’s will be available to answer all your questions.

Sunday’s session highlights post production workflow. You’ll see CineForm’s powerful Aspect HD software working transparently underneath Adobe Premiere 6.5 allowing real-time editing of HD (Mpeg2 mp@ts) video streams. Then get HDSDI connectivity with Aja Video Systems new converter as it takes the camera’s component analog out and converts it to an uncompressed HDSDI signal compatible with Final Cut Pro 4 and a majority of the HD equipment already in the marketplace.

Event fee $75

Perhaps a true 16x9 is on the way to replace it.

Now that the new Canon MVX3i shows they are going forward to widescreen

Dell's new player ... as a recorder?

Check it out - The Dell DJ Player

It has USB 2.0 and I think it works both ways, also has a mic for voice recording, and stores 15GB with the basic model for $249.00 - now if only they'd put in a mic jack.

Would it be difficult to convert the built-in mic into a jack?

There is a similar HD based MP3 player with mic and optical in. It records up to 320kb MP3, I believe. It was made by a company called River or something like that.
