Basic After FX doubt

Hi guys,

I'm doing a trailer for a project of mine and I'd like to have a black screen with the title scrolling in from different sides, but the words need to be transparent so we can see footage through them from the layer beneath the black layer (I'm not sure I'm explaining my self very well...is it clear what I'm trying to to?).

It sounds pretty basic but it's been ages since I've worked with After FX.

Re: Basic After FX doubt

Just saw this thread and though I'd reply in case anybody else stumbles upon it looking for an answer:

Create your text and animate as usual, then set the blending mode to "Stencil Alpha".
