No sound with Mercalli V2 SAL

Hi,
I am a recent recuit to digital filming and use both a GH2 and Nikon D5100. As my buget is low I am currently using Premiere Elements though would like to upgrade to Premiere Pro.

I recently download the trial version of Mercalli V2. It works fine as a plugin through PE but when I try the SAL version it starts with a warning that my K-lite codec is out of date and I need to install the latest pack. When I click on ignore I can use Mercalli but do not have any sound either when viewing clips through it or when I save any clips I have stablised. When I first downloaded and started to install the K-lite pack I was not happy to see just how items it would install- plus I got a warning that one of the codecs it was about to install would remove features from my installed PowerDVD. So I aborted the installation. Since them I have found quite a few negative reports via Google about K-lite and that it should be avoided like the plague!

Apart from a few graphical extra icons is there much advantage to using the SAL version of Mercalli over the plugin version? And given its high price is it still worth buying even if you cannot fully utilise it all? Or do you know which particular codec I might need to restore the sound (and without wrecking the rest of my OS!). Prodad were not much help just telling me to install K-lite despite my concerns.

cheers

bill

Re: No sound with Mercalli V2 SAL

The plug-in version is great! It gives far better results than anything I have tried previously. The results with progressive video are even better than with interlaced.

I find that it is easier to use the plug-in than go outside Premiere to use the SAL version. I would not add the Klite pack to my system for the reasons you quote, and the latest version does not handle audio without that pack.

Re: No sound with Mercalli V2 SAL

Thanks for your reply. So is it just the latest version of Mercalli that has the sound issue if the codec pack is not installed?
If I go ahead and buy the software does it unlock the installed software and remove those red cross. Or do you need to uninstall the trial and start from scatch?

cheers
