dashwood faq - ultrastudio capture
This is a question regarding capture from the z10000 using the blqckmagic ultrastudio. In the dashwood 3d intro page, it says that the ultrastudio only captures interlaced. I know this is true for td10 n JVC td1. What about live hdmi on HMz1 n z10000. They capture progressive n output progressive signal. Can I confirm if the ultrastudio can capture a live 25p 3d signal?

Re: dashwood faq - ultrastudio capture
A live 25p 3D signal over HDMI 1.4a will still likely need to be captured as 50i. This is a limitation in the way JVC, Sony and Panasonic implemented 3D HDMI output in their 3D cameras. As far as we have seen in our testing of these programs with the Utlrastudio 3D all progressive 3D output is converted to interlaced on HDMI.
The good news is that 25p in 50i is effectively the same as a "25p" file when it comes to editing. You just need to define your files as progressive after capture and import into your NLE. Set your sequence to 25p. For 24p the process is not as simple because the 2:3 pulldown needs to be removed.

Does the JVC hmz1 actually output frame packed 24p live HDMI?

Re: dashwood faq - ultrastudio capture
Most of the consumer level cameras do but 24p is almost always in a 2-3 pulldown as 60i when frame-packed over HDMI1.4.
