Things I noticed

Yesterday I was shooting with Canon 5D mkiii 1080/24 and the 7q(not with newest firmware) recording Prores and here are some of the things I noticed

- thin black bar at the bottom of the screen, picture doesn't seem to fill the screen(I was also shooting a 2nd 5d with a pix240 attached to it, both cameras were going to the directors monitor doing a split screen of the 2 cameras and noticed it there first)

-Our sound guy was feeding both cameras timecode and sound, noticed that it wasn't coming down the SDI, like the pix.

-fed the 7q audio through the mini plug(sorry dont the exact name) and nothing on the audio meters.

-every once in a while the 7q would just shut off(were using the power supply that came with camera)

-about 3 to 5 times yesterday when the camera was turned off and back on, the 7q would show a squeeze image, I would have cycle the power button to get back the proper looking image.

Dan can you help address some of these issues please.
Thank you.

First off, you have to upgrade to the latest firmware and retest. The latest firmware, 1.11.100, may have addressed some of your concerns.

Re: Things I noticed

If I knew about the firmware I would have updated and I am not going to update right in the middle of my shoot.

Re: Things I noticed

Dear Chong,

1. The issue with the black bar at the bottom of the image from a Canon 5D Mark III was reported to us on Monday of this week. We are working to fix that problem.

We have a 5D Mark III in our lab and I am very confident that we can test it.

2. We will check on the sound and timecode.

Are you sending the sound into the 5D Mark III?

How are you sending timecode into the 5D Mark III?

The external audio input on the Odyssey7Q is not enabled yet, but will be soon.

If you were feeding timecode into the Odyssey7Q, the Timecode menu would have to be set to LTC for this to work. Please let us know if you had it set to LTC.

3. Did you have the Odyssey7Q flat on a table, or was it mounted vertically, so that the cooling fins could get some air?

Did you get an overheating message?

4. The squeeze issue may have been solved by firmware 1.11.100.

We will attempt to address all of these issues promptly.

Respectfully,

Re: Things I noticed

Thanks for the reply Dan.

Sorry I may have not communicated properly, we were not sending sound or timecode to the 5D.

The timecode fed to the 7Q was from our sound mixer and we saw it on the 7Q also on the footage but there wasn't timecode coming out of the SDI that was feeding the directors.
The timecode was set to LTC.
Also, the was some timecode drifts, it was minor but any where from 4 to 8 frames(maybe more).

The black bar was also on all the footage that came off the CD SDDs.

Thanks again for quick reply!

Re: Things I noticed

Dear Chong,

I have alerted our team to check out all of the issues you have reported.

Could you please elaborate on the Timecode Drift issue?

I understand that you were sending timecode into our unit via LTC, thus there should not have been any drift compared to the timecode source, if they remained connected.

I would also like to know if there was any warning about overheating.

Was the unit lying flat on the heatsink or was it in a vertical position, thus allowing air to flow?

Respectfully,

Re: Things I noticed

Hi Dan
The editor told me that when he brought the footage into Premiere the timecode slate was not matching the numbers that were fed into the 7q and that it was off anywhere from 4 to 8 frames, it was not consistent, we were connected the whole time.

Also I had the monitor mounted on top of the camera so there was plenty of air flow, no over heat message, I did see that when were rolling the temp got up to 40 degrees Celsius.

Re: Things I noticed

Dear Chong,

Of course we support audio over HD-SDI and HDMI inputs at this time.

Our two-channel external analog audio inputs will be enabled in our next firmware release.

We record these channels in 24-Bit/48K.

Respectfully,
