Gemini can record 240fps stream from Sony FS700
Just though you might be interested to hear that the Convergent Design Gemini makes the perfect partner for the soon to be released (mid June) Sony FS700. When shooting Super Slow Mo with the FS700 (up to 240fps) the FS700 can be set to output 1080p60 or 1080p50 over 3G HDSDi. During the cameras buffering cycle the 240fps video stored in the cameras internal frame buffer is read from the buffer at 60fps before being compressed and recorded to AVCHD for writing to the SD card. This pre compression (as far as I can tell it is uncompressed at this stage) stream is output from the cameras 3G HDSDi at 60fps (or 50 fps in PAL mode) and can be recorded by the Gemini uncompressed for ultra high quality super slow mo. Slow the clip down to 24fps in you edit suite and you have glorious 240fps slow motion.

that was a good news after the Cinegear 2012 Alister, and hope sony will release the 4K Raw firmware for the Gemini Raw in later this year ( or IBC 2012 ) as well.

Re: Gemini can record 240fps stream from Sony FS700
Dear Alistair,
Does that mean that you can then shoot the FS7500 on Super Slo Mo, for longer extended periods, say up to a minute, or longer, with the GEMINI 4x4x4? |

Re: Gemini can record 240fps stream from Sony FS700
No it does not because you are still tied to using the buffer stream from the FS700 as it is read out from the internal memory to the SD cards.

No, SD cards are no where near fast enough.

Re: Gemini can record 240fps stream from Sony FS700
Alister,
What is your workflow after recording? Do you transcode the uncompressed footage to Prores or similar? If yes, what steps does it take to do so? I decided not to buy the Gemini (yet), one of th ereasons is because it does not have a compressed codec to handle 60p which is required for the slomo of the FS700. The DNxHD does support only up to 30p (and I believe the upgrade for Q3 is not implemented yet at all?). |

Hope Sony will open up the 4K RAW output for my Gemini 4:4:4 soon, like Canon C500 does.
