Re: files and clips..?

Dear Robin,

We define a Clip as one recording, from when the recorder starts to record, until it stops.

Then, for reasons of compatibility with Mac's, PC's and Linux systems, we break this one Clip into multiple "Files" if necessary.

Then we provide tools to stitch these files back together during the file transfer from the card to a PC or Mac.

Re: files and clips..?

Hi Dan

Ok thanks.. so what happens if I down load to a FAT 32 ext HDD.. (from the card via Mac/shotput pro) when a clip has gone over 4GB,and so multiple files.. these files also will be copied over as separate files.. as coming from a FAT recording (Nanoflash)to a FAT ext HDD.. (would those multi files be stitched together if down loading onto a MAC or Windows formatted ext HDD)

Or do you mean the files are stitched together when being transferred into a NLE either mac or windows

1 Does this make sense .. ie A clip over 4GB will be down loaded to the HDD,as the same multi files,as the original recording,as the HDD is also FAT 32.. so a long interview could be 4 files..

2 When down loading to mac or windows formatted ext HDD.. these files would be stitched together..(from a clip over 4GB..

3 The multi file would only get stitched together when being transferred to NLE software..

Thanks again

Re: files and clips..?

Dear Robin,

The files stay the same size, unless a program specifically stitches them together.

We offer these programs on our website.

But, please understand that one can just select a group of files, and for most NLE's, just drag and drop them onto your timeline.

For most NLE's, they will just fall into place, adjacent to one another.

Also, only for longer clips is this even an issue.

For those that want, or need the clip to be one large file, we offer the programs to stick these together.

For some NLE's one can easily group the individual files together using a command.

(But, in some cases the files still remain separate, thus certain actions may need to be performed on each file separately. And there are easy solutions to this also.)

Also, please note that it is safer to split long clips into separate files. If somethiing untold happens to one of the files, you still have all of the rest intact.

We have lots of information and resources on our website:
