Sony F3 + S-Log + Gemini 4:4:4 Footage by Filippo Chiesa
Dear Friends,
While at IBC, we had an opportunity to allow one of our Gemini 4:4:4's to be used by a noted filmmaker. Filippo Chiesa, an Italian Filmaker, had a Sony F3 with the S-Log Option. So we loaned a Gemini 4:4:4 to him for a day of shooting. While we have been testing the Gemini 4:4:4 internally, this is the first official test "In the Wild". We were not present during the shoot. We are very happy to report that the Gemini 4:4:4 worked well for Filippo. His footage is here: The footage starts out in native S-Log, so it looks flat, as expected. The second half is the same footage after grading. We wish to thank Filippo for the outstanding job he did in testing our Gemini 4:4:4.

Beautiful. Very filmic. Tons of latitude. Blacks appear deep and rich (watched on a laptop and obviously not the right way to make judgements).
Would love to have watched on a proper monitor and Blu-Ray. Wished the sun had come out to see even more of the chroma pop. |

Re: Sony F3 + S-Log + Gemini 4:4:4 Footage by Filippo Chiesa
Dear John,
Thank you. And of course, I need to thank Filippo. The Video is embedded in my post, which is great. Here is what Filippo posted as comments on the Vimeo site, video number 29021459: Last week I was in Amsterdam at IBC. I was lucky enough to test a sample of the new Gemini 4:4:4 recorder with my Sony PMW-F3 + S-Log. It was the first official test, so I felt very honoured to have this great opportunity. I shot this video in a very nice village near Amsterdam on Sep. 10th from 7am to 10am. The Gemini software was not the definitive one but it worked great. It's solid like a tank, the images are terrific and the Arri RAW option is on the way. Welcome to this new game changer! Recorder: Convergent Design Gemini Lenses: Nikon Noct 58mm 1:1.2 Nikon 14-24mm 1:2.8 Camera: Sony PMW-F3 + S-Log Camera support: O'Connor Editing: Premiere Pro CS 5.5 + Matrox MXO2 Grading: MBL + Colorista II A very special thanks to: Mike Schell and Dan Keaton from Convergent Design Sony Europe Michael Zeisse from O'Connor Please download the compression version to see the video in a better quality.
